GB Surfing has selected four athletes for its Olympic training programme for the 2026/27 season.
Lukas Skinner and Charlotte Mulley have been named in the Podium Squad, while Alys Barton and Patrick Langdon-Dark join the Progression Squad.
These selections mark the first under GB Surfing’s new performance strategy, which introduces an additional Olympic squad aligned with UK Sport’s Athlete Performance Awards (APAs). Athletes across both squads will receive the same level of support from GB Surfing as they build towards qualification for the LA Olympic Games. The main distinction is that Podium Squad members have achieved the APA Level D performance criteria, making them eligible for additional financial support from UK Sport.
Athletes in the Olympic programme will benefit from year-round support led by GB Surfing’s Head of Performance, Mick Cain. Working closely with Mick, each surfer will develop a tailored 12-month performance plan, delivered through regular check-ins, video analysis, and in-person coaching. Financial support will also be provided to assist with coaching, training, travel, and other key areas of development, ensuring athletes have the resources needed to maximise their progression.
This approach represents a shift away from isolated training camps and event-focused preparation, towards a more individualised model centred on each athlete’s daily training environment and is designed to meet their specific needs and support long-term performance development.
Athletes were selected against GB Surfing’s Olympic Training Squad Selection Criteria.
Selection or the Development Squad is ongoing, and more details will be announced shortly.
