GB Surfing Performance Coach Luke Dillon to Return to Competition

GB Surfing Performance Coach Luke Dillon will return to competitive surfing for the 2026/27 WSL season.

Luke transitioned from surfing into coaching in 2023 and has since played an important role in the development of the GB Surfing programme. His decision to return to competition however means he will now step down from his role as Performance Coach with the organisation.

GB Surfing’s Head of Performance, Mick Cain, will take on the lead coaching responsibilities for the organisation’s Olympic senior development squads – the Podium Squad and the Progression Squad. Further details on GB Surfing’s performance strategy moving forward can be found here.

To give Luke an opportunity to secure a seeding for the 2026/27 season, GB Surfing has approved his participation in the upcoming WSL QS 4000 event in Taghazout Bay, Morocco, which begins on 22 March.

Although stepping back from his work with the senior squads, Luke will remain involved with GB Surfing. He will continue to support the organisation’s investment in junior surfers and provide additional coaching alongside Home Nation programmes, helping to raise the standard of pathway surfers progressing into GB Surfing’s senior Olympic development squads.
