ISA World Surfing Games: 2026 Updated Selection Criteria

Following the cancellation of the GB Cup 2025 finals, GB Surfing has updated its selection criteria for the 2026 ISA World Surfing Games.

This change specifically affects Schedule A, section 1.4. Previously, this allocation was reserved for the male and female winners of the GB Cup.

Under the revised criteria, this quota place will instead be determined using results from the 2026–27 World Surf League European Qualifying Series. The highest-ranked eligible male and female surfers after the first three events of the season will each earn an automatic place, provided they are ranked within the Top 20 overall.

Please see the updated details below.

    1. One ISA World Games Short Board quota shall be awarded to the highest-ranked male and female athletes on the 2026 -2027 WSL European Regional Qualifying Series (RQS), provided the athlete is inside the Top 20 ranking.

* For the avoidance of doubt, the following WSL European RQS event scores will be included.

  • Lacanau Pro (July 8-13)
  • Boardmasters Open (August 5-9)
  • ABANCA Pantin Classic Galicia Pro (August 24-30)

*In the event of a ranking tie, the panel will consider individual performances

*In the event that no athlete qualifies via A.1.4, the quota will be added to A.1.5
