GB Surfing Appoints Former Team Sky and GB Cycling Performance Lead, Dan Hunt, as Executive Performance Director
GB Surfing is delighted to announce that Dan Hunt will join the organisation as Executive Performance Director. Dan will oversee all operational aspects of GB Surfing, including the functioning of the organisation and the performance strategy.
Dan was previously working with GB Surfing as a Consultant, and this appointment now sees him join the organisation on a permanent basis. The foundations he has built during his time consulting, along with his proven track record of delivering elite performance programmes and his vision for GB Surfing, make him a valuable asset to the organisation as it develops a team capable of winning Olympic medals by Brisbane 2032.
Dan joins GB Surfing with over 20 years’ experience in high performance sport. Having started his career as a Sports Scientist, he moved into a National Coaching role with the Great Britain Cycling Team. He has gone on to coach multiple medallists at National, European and Commonwealth Games as well as guiding athletes to World Titles and Olympic Gold medals at both the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympics.
More recently, Dan has held performance leadership roles at Sky Pro-Cycling, The Premier League, GB Snowsports and was the Director of Performance for INEOS Grenadiers Pro-Cycling.
Talking of his appointment, Dan Hunt, said: “I am delighted to be joining GB Surfing as Executive Performance Director. We have got some really exciting young surfers in Britain with heaps of potential.
With the right programme in place the sky is the limit for a number of them and we have an incredible opportunity here to make history and produce Olympic medal-winning athletes over the next eight years and beyond.”
This appointment of Dan signals GB Surfing’s intent to provide athletes with the best team, facilities and guidance possible in order to help them maximise their talent and make Britain a leading surfing nation
Dan will lead an initial team of three, with Joel Gray as Performance Pathway Manager, and Gwen Spurlock as Development Pathway Lead.
