As surfing grows in popularity across Great Britain, we want to make it accessible to as broad and diverse a community as possible. We want to extend the reach of this incredible sport and especially want to give equal opportunity to any young person to reach the elite level of surfing irrespective of where they live, their socio-economic background or any of their protected characteristics such as sex or ethnicity. Surfing is a sport for all, anyone should be able to participate and excel, and ultimately realise their Olympic ambition. The greater the diversity of the athletes we attract into the sport, the more talent we uncover.
To help us achieve this, we need to know our starting point. We need to understand who has already managed to make strong progress in the sport across the country and be on a pathway to the elite level of surfing or are indeed already there. Then, we can develop a plan to broaden the reach of the sport, improve equal access and uncover more talent.
To do so, the GB Surfing ED&I Advisory Group have created this survey, working closely with the Home Nations and in collaboration with key academic partners including Napier University. Please help us by completing this survey, to understand where we are starting from. It will only take around 10 minutes of your time and your information is provided in complete confidence. No data will be accessible by GB Surfing or any of the Home Nation Governing Bodies. Data will be held confidentially and securely by Napier University and there is no chance of the information you provide being identifiable.
