GB Cup Judging Applications OPEN

Role: GB Cup Judge

Location: Newquay, Cornwall

Dates: Saturday 28 – Sunday 29 October

Closing date: 01 October

Who we are

In 2016 the International Olympic Committee confirmed the inclusion of surfing in the Olympic programme for Tokyo 2020, and subsequently in Paris 2024, Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032.

Following this announcement, British Surfing Ltd, recently renamed GB Surfing, was formed by the four home nations – Channel Islands, England, Scotland, Wales – and is responsible for the selection, preparation and management of GB Surfing teams and its respective athletes.

In October, GB Surfing will be running the GB Cup. This will feature the best Open category and junior surfers from the UK, with the male and female Open winner earning a place on the GB ISA World Surf Games team. This ensures a fair process and equal opportunity for athletes from the four federations to be selected for the GB Surfing ISA team.

About the role

One of the key strategical priorities for GB Surfing is to help give British technical staff a greater influence at European and World Championship events. This increased knowledge and experience will improve the standard of judging at British events and help us develop world-class technical surfers who are better prepared for ISA competitions.

We will use the 2023 GB Cup to evaluate the current technical ability of GB judges and event staff, and then as a mechanism to help upskill technical staff through access and exposure to the best equipment and resources.
