JOB ALERT: Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Group Member

GB Surfing: Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I) Advisory Group

Role: ED&I Advisory Group Member

Location: Remote

Remuneration: Voluntary

Closing date: Monday 26 February 2024

Who we are

In 2016 the International Olympic Committee confirmed the inclusion of surfing in the Olympic programme for Tokyo 2020, and subsequently in Paris 2024, Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032.

Following this announcement, British Surfing Ltd, renamed GB Surfing in July 2023, was formed by the four home nations – Channel Islands, England, Scotland, Wales – and is responsible for the selection, preparation and management of GB Surfing teams and its respective athletes.  In 2020 British Surfing Ltd was successful in securing £1.35 million of investment from UK Sport. This funding was awarded to enhance the process of developing and supporting current and future generations of surfers with the capability and determination necessary to win Olympic medals.

About the role

We are looking for someone with skills in developing surveys and data collection, and ideally knowledge and a keen interest in EDI, to join our Advisory Group. This person will guide us in the collection of important quantitative, demographic data and also more qualitative, inclusion information around experiences working for and operating within the elite surfing environment. We intend to survey our athletes, employees, volunteers, coaches and key partners.

This will then provide a baseline from which we can build out KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), strategy and a meaningful Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP). The successful candidate should also have an understanding of the legal data privacy requirements, discrimination risks and cultural factors that need to be taken into account when collecting EDI data.

This role is voluntary and might suit, for example, a student looking for a fascinating research topic or project, an EDI agency or consultant keen to undertake pro-bono work for a very cool sport with Olympic ambitions, or an individual who just feels they have the right fit and passion for this role!
