Earlier this week, GB Surfing’s Team Manager, Gwen Spurlock visited Pembrokeshire College in South Wales to address students enrolled in the Level 3 Sports Development and Fitness course.
During the visit, Gwen provided a comprehensive overview of GB Surfing’s structure, objectives, and strategies aimed at nurturing Olympic-calibre athletes. This information, as well as being a valuable resource for the students in their assignments, was instrumental in fostering their understanding and proficiency within the sports and active leisure industry.
Gwen’s presentation was complemented by Ben Field’s discussion on Football in Wales (FAW), offering students a contrasting perspective on sports dynamics, including size, participation rates, financial aspects, and employment statistics. Her explanation of the junior pathway, coupled with her insights into key performance indicators, sparked engaging discussions among the students, highlighting the importance of her expertise in shaping their educational journey.
Talking about the visit, Clair Owen, Lecturer at Pembrokeshire College, said:
“Gwen’s presence and insights have significantly enriched the learning experience of our students enrolled in the Level 3 Sports Development and Fitness course at Pembrokeshire College.
“At Pembrokeshire College, we firmly believe that engaging with industry experts like Gwen is essential for providing our students with a holistic understanding of their chosen field. We are immensely grateful for Gwen’s generosity, enthusiasm, and dedication to supporting not only the advancement of her sport but also the positive impact on education as a whole.”
