GB Surfing

In 2016 the International Olympic Committee confirmed the inclusion of surfing in the Olympic programme for Tokyo 2020, and subsequently in Paris 2024, Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032.

Following this announcement, British Surfing Ltd, renamed GB Surfing in July 2023, was formed by the four home nations – Channel Islands, England, Scotland, Wales – and is responsible for the selection, preparation and management of GB Surfing teams and its respective athletes.

In 2020 British Surfing Ltd was successful in securing £1.35 million of investment from UK Sport for the Paris Olympic Cycle, and in 2024, received further UK Sport funding for the LA Olympic cycle.

This funding was awarded to enhance the process of developing and supporting current and future generations of surfers with the capability and determination necessary to win Olympic medals.

The ED&I Advisory Group

GB Surfing formed an Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I) Advisory Group in early 2024.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion – GB Surfing

Chaired by Sarah Howe, the vastly experienced group works to unearth new talent from a diverse range of communities, create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all, and increase the accessibility of tools and programmes to ensure everyone with aspirations to surf at the elite level has an equal opportunity.

It also plays a key role in shaping GB Surfing’s ED&I strategy and developing a Diversity & Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP), ensuring alignment with the UK Sport Code for Sports Governance.

Reporting directly to the Board and working closely with the Executive, the Group collaborates with the Home Nations and builds on existing ED&I initiatives to drive lasting progress.
